ECB proposes to organize a 100-ball format tournament
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) plans to introduce a new version of cricket.
Although the Twenty20 tournament, like the T20 Blast and Women’s Super League, is being launched in the country, the ECB is thinking of organizing new tournaments like the Premier League (IPL) and the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). As part of this, the ECB has proposed to organize a new domestic competition since 2020, where each innings will be 100 balls.
According to a BBC report, the ECB submitted the proposal to the Board of the first class cricket chairman and chief executive and MCC, Lord’s Cricket Ground authority on Thursday.
In the proposal, instead of the traditional 18-county group of the first class, it has been said that the tournament will be arranged with eight teams from the city-based women and men section.
The ECB said in a statement that the tournament will be organized for five weeks in the season. The proposal is still awaiting final approval. All the teams here will play 15 overs of 6 balls and the extra 10 balls will be in the end of the innings.
The chief executive of the ECB, Tom Hirston, said, “This is a very nice and delightful plan, which attracts young visitors and new fans of the game. Although the new idea is challenging, we will try to continue.
Meanwhile, England fast bowler Stuart Broad said on behalf of the proposed format. He said to Sky Sports, ‘I am very optimistic. I think it’s different from other tournaments around the world. 15 will be over six balls and there will be many tensions in the last 10.
