Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally inaugurated Sardar Sarovar Dam, the second largest dam in the world in Narmada district of the state of Gujarat. The dam was inaugurated almost 56 years after the foundation of the court and the protesters of the affected villagers finally formed the foundation stone.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 67th birthday today On his birthday, he dedicated this project to the nation. As the height of the dam is increased to 138 meters on the river Narmada, the capacity of the reservoir will increase from 12.7 lakh cubic meters to 47.3 lakh cubic meters. In 1961, India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru laid the foundation for this dam. Since then, the debate started around. Due to controversy, its construction could not be started before 1987.

After the launch of the final phase of the project, the Prime Minister has claimed that he wants to spread huge propaganda and false campaign against this dam. But in fact, it is a wonder of technical! The World Bank has not agreed to fund this project, but still India has built this dam in its power and capacity, the Prime Minister said.

In the language of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, ‘Mother Narmada water will change the lives of millions of people forever.’ Just a few hours before the inauguration of the Narmada river, the vast areas of Madhya Pradesh and many villages have been flooded. Narmada Bachao Movement leader Md Patekar has been opposing this project in the light of the environmental risk and the risk of endangered human life. He started the ‘Water Satyagraha’ movement against this dam in Barwani district of Madhya Pradesh.

The government is claiming that this water will be delivered to a total of nine thousand villages in Gujarat through a canal network, and it will get irrigation water of more than 18 lakh hectares of agricultural land. Sardar Sarovar dam power generation in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Gujarat, these three states will divide themselves among themselves.

The Indian environmental activists who have been campaigning for this project for many years do not agree with this. Rather, the Sardar Sarovar dam has claimed to have sheltered hundreds of millions of villagers. Leaders of the ‘Narmada Bachao’ movement say that 40 thousand families of 190 villages of displaced Madhya Pradesh have not been brought under the rehabilitation program. The shelters that have been built are also ineligible to live.

On Friday, when the height of the dam was increased to 128.3 meters, many villages of Nissarpur and surrounding areas were submerged. On Sunday, an important bridge under Rajghat in Barwani district of the state was submerged under water. The bridge was used to maintain the connection of the Rajghat with the neighboring district. Sardar Sarovar Dam has removed many villages and towns from this country forever, says Environment Activists.
