The United States wants to keep Maduro one-sided
The United States has urged South American leaders to take tough steps to unite Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. The United States has supported the criticism of the Lima Group of Nations condemning the growing humanitarian crisis and political suppression in Venezuela.
US vice-president Mike Pens said in a conference in Lima, Peru’s capital on Saturday, that Venezuela is preparing for the presidential election on May 20. Many regional leaders have called this election an attempt to legitimize Maduro’s rule. So Maduro should take action now.
This is the first time that the United States has supported the statement of Lima Group of Nations leaders. In that statement, Maduro has been asked to free political prisoners and conduct transparent elections.
Nearly three million people left the country after the economic collapse of one-time OPPO member state Venezuela Yet Maduro is expected to win the next election. Together with government supporters, leaders of two powerful opposition leaders in Venezuela are kept away from the elections.
Pens said, “The state may not be silent in this state of Venezuela. Today the independent states stand here in one row, each one of them should take action now to get Maduro united. We all should stand beside the brothers and sisters who suffer from suffering in Venezuela.
The Lima Group’s statement warned the governments of different countries to take steps to strengthen democracy in Venezuela, warning of increasing the number of immigrants from Venezuela.
Washington has already brought a number of senior officials of the Maduro administration under sanctions for alleged corruption and human rights violations.
